Everyone should start as a first grade teacher…
My career started with Teach for America in New Orleans as a first grade teacher. I have drawn on that experience in every position since; where I think of the classroom setup as a composition, and designing my classes to incorporate the rhythms and variety that are natural to the primary grades.
After spending three years as a regular elementary school teacher, I switched to working as an art specialist/ artist-in-residence in a variety of schools around the Crescent City.
After moving to Massachusetts I worked for eight years as an Art Specialist at the BRIDGE Program Alternative Middle School in Lowell.
Since switching to Higher Education teaching, I have continued to run workshops and substitute in K-12 public and independent environments around the North Shore of Massachusetts.
