The New Orleans Drawing Project

Sketchbook, March 2007

As part of my process in New Orleans, I started each day making a few ink sketches. Though my second trip, in March 2007, was a full eighteen months after Hurricane Katrina, the Lower Ninth Ward was still mostly abandoned. My days were long, and as there were no restaurants or coffee shops I packed a thermos and some sandwiches and normally spent 10 hours a day working. Those long stretches gave me the space to make small and large work at the same time.
